This is going to be a long post I hope you have lots of free time? 10th December today so all bar 4 days it's a year since we moved over to Spain, There are times when I think wow! that has really zipped past and then there are times when it feels like we have been here our whole life. Even though I am still struggling with the language, I know more about my Locale in one year than I ever did in Beckenham I have never felt more at home than I do right now. I love this place, we have managed to achieve a lot of things in 12 months but there is still a lot to do but there is no rush....deep breath and relax! Still lots to do on the house and then there is me!!! I am overweight and I haven't been what you would call very active which does not help with my incredible high blood pressure so to get my Spanish licence I have to pass a medical....ooops.
For a long time poor Lorni has been suffering with a bad knee amongst other things but it's her knee that was giving her so much trouble and pain. It wasn't long before she required a walking stick to help her get along but as a nurse her Hospital would not let her use the stick at work, which of course accelerated the problem until it became too difficult to work at all, she then underwent a three minor surgeries to try and help the situation,Help not cure! as the only cure for her serious Arthritis was a knee replacement, Thee NHS is just one long waiting list so in the meantime we moved over to Spain earlier than expected int he vain hope the warmer weather would help with Lorni's condition while waiting for her condition to be advanced in the system. Meanwhile she is going through 6 monthly meetings in the UK to asses her ability to work. Now realising this could jeopardise her career and her pension rights Lorni tried to accelerate her end result of a knee replacement but found out that in the London area there is a 4 year wait!!! so she informed her bosses that she had arranged to pay for the operation herself and that this would take place in the middle of December. However they sacked her before the operation took place.
Obviously there is going to be an appeal and maybe even a court case so for legal reasons I can not go into details apart from the institution screwed up big time on their own procedures as well as lots more stuff which I will post about after they have been dealt with.
So last week Lorni looking like a Russian jumped into the car and I took her off to the Alicante Airport where she was bound for Lithuania, A lot of research went into this and it would appear that the clinic she is using is one of the best in the world with the highest success rate and lowest infection rate, the other choices were S[pain itself and Turkey but Lithuania came out top.
As we were near Christmas getting a flight was difficult and Lorni had to fly over a couple of days earlier than she wanted and therefore had to stay in a Hotel, luckily they bought her operation forward a day early . Lorni had her operation last Thursday....
They are looking after her very well she is really enjoying the food..........
Her knee was very bad and extremely painful now she has no pain associated with Arthritis now its just post op pain.
Horrible bruising and swelling and 36 staples a day after her op she was transferred tot he re-hab/Spa centre where they are pampering her and giving her heat, ice and physio treatment along with massages, Fortunately barbecue of the timing Lorni spent her birthday there on the 9th but it didn't go un-celebrated.
So Lorni will be hme this iocming Saturday hopefully in a lot less pain her new knee looks something liek this...
New Knee
Old Knee
Post op support mechanism LOL
There is still a long way to go before she regains full fitness and has to learn to walk properly again as well as exercising to regain strength in her quads but fingers crossed she will get there sooner rather than later.
I weighed myself two weeks ago and I was 115kg or 225 pounds or over 18 stone so I started my New Years Resolution early This entailed not snacking between meals, get of my arse and do more and more exerciser, OK so I have a planned regime part of which is walking the dogs more, they really seem to like being out in the Country more.
Harry and Willow love being out more
They have made new friends
More walks wears them out though LOL
This combined with watching what I eat and using the exercise bike and few mins every day doing a work out I have managed to lose over half a stone 7.5 pounds in one week, now I have to continue this I want to try and get under 100 kilos before Christmas.
In case this is the last post before the new year have a really Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.
